The madness may be reigning at the moment, but it's never too early to start talking football.

With that in mind, let's take a look at some of the big games and schedules on tap for the 2014 prep football campaign. (NOTE: Scroll down for a look at individual teams' schedules.)

The 2014 slate will feature a number of big questions, not the least of which is how so many area teams will handle the new region alignments the GHSA has set for the 2014-15 football seasons.

The schedule will kick off for a number of northeast Georgia teams on what is known as "week zero," with five area squads slated for Aug. 22 showdowns, including an intriguing battle between Rabun County and Jefferson at Jefferson. Other games scheduled for Aug. 22 include Johnson at Madison County, Lumpkin County at Model and Hebron Christian at East Jackson.

Two programs will also take part in the Corky Kell Classic at the Georgia Dome on Aug. 23, with Mill Creek taking on McEachern and North Gwinnett playing Colquitt County.

That Saturday will also see Buford open its season at noon, playing host to Florida's Trinity Christian, in a game that is being considered for ESPN broadcast. Trinity Christian is Florida's defending Class AAA champion.

Other notables from the upcoming season:

-- North Hall will travel to face state power Carrollton on Sept. 19, part of a very tough non-region slate that also includes 2013 playoff teams Jefferson (Sept. 5) and West Hall (Sept. 12).

-- Gainesville will open its regular season at Grayson, beginning the post Deshaun Watson-era against a Class AAAAAA foe.

-- Chestatee will christen its first campaign in Class AAAA against Class AAAAA foe Flowery Branch. It will be the first game between the two since 2009. The two Hall County schools opened in 2002 and played each other in eight straight seasons until Flowery Branch moved up in classification for the 2010 campaign. The Falcons lead the series 6-2.

-- West Hall will play three 2013 playoff teams in its non-region slate, including Chestatee (Sept. 5), North Hall (Sept. 12) and North Oconee (Sept. 19).

-- Jefferson will take on a tough non-region slate, facing playoff teams from a year ago in three of its four non-region contests: Rabun County at home (Aug. 22), at North Hall (Sept. 5), Commerce at home. (Sept. 12).

-- Lakeview will play its first ever region schedule in 2014, competing in Region 8-A.

-- The 2014 campaign is 152 days away...
