ATLANTA (AP) Atlanta police say the discovery of what appeared to be a hand grenade prompted the evacuation of the city's downtown Greyhound bus station.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports several hundred people were pulled off buses and told to leave the station at about 5 a.m. Monday when an object that looked like a hand grenade fell out of a box.

The street outside was closed and commuter trains on a nearby rail were stopped for more than hour as police investigated. Atlanta police say the grenade was real, but was hallowed out and posed no threat.

Marvin Green said he was on his way from Florida to South Carolina when his bus was evacuated at the Atlanta station. He says passengers were told only that officials had ``found something suspicious.''
