LITHONIA - Police in suburban Atlanta say they've apprehended a man they say held a SWAT team at bay and set fire to the home.

Police say the ordeal began shortly before dawn Friday, when officers responded to reports of a domestic assault and the suspect refused to surrender to officers.

The DeKalb County police Special Weapons And Tactics team was then called to the home near Lithonia and officers began negotiating with the man.

DeKalb police interim Chief Jim Conroy tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that officers were able to get the 45-year-old suspect out of the house before it was set on fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

WSB-TV reports that one woman was taken to a hospital. The extent of her injuries wasn't immediately known.
