JEFFERSON - The board of directors for Jackson EMC Wednesday announced the selection of Earnest A. "Chip" Jakins III as the cooperative's new President/CEO.

Jakins succeeds Randall Pugh, who announced his retirement last October. "When Mr. Pugh announced his retirement in October, our board executives committee formed a search for a new president and CEO and that search yielded Mr. Jakins," said Bonnie Jones, spokeswoman for the utility.

Jakins is no stranger to the power industry. "Chip is actually the current president and CEO of Carroll EMC, located in Carrollton, Ga.," said Jones. "He is an 18 year veteran of the power industry, he actually started his career in 1996 with SCANA... and was named president and CEO of Carroll EMC in 2002."

Jones said Jakins will begin on or before May 1 of this year.
