Winter hanging on

PEACHTREE CITY - The weather, starting Wednesday, will serve as reminder from Mother Nature that winter is not done with us just yet.

There is a 90 percent chance of rain Tuesday night and Wednesday and, although the high is supposed to be 68 on Wednesday, by Thursday morning the temperature is expected to be about 40 degrees colder. But the rain should move out before temperatures hit the freezing mark.

The cold weather will ride into the area on strong, gusty winds and a wind advisory has been issued for most of north and central Georgia from 2:00 Wednesday afternoon until 2:00 Thursday morning (see separate posting) when the low in Gainesville is expected to bottom-out at 29.

Thursday's high will reach only about 50 with another freeze, 31, Thursday night before things return to more normal readings: a high of 60 on Friday and a low of 42 Friday night.

The return to much colder weather follows several days of springlike weather across most of north Georgia.
