Basketball: Redan girls top Columbus for AAAA crown

MACON -- Brea Elmore scored 20 points to lead Redan to a 63-53 win Thursday over Columbus in the GHSA Class AAAA girls state championship.<br /> <br /> Destini McClary and Jada Byrd each added 16 points for the undefeated Raiders, who won their second state championship in school history.<br /> <br /> Redan (34-0) led by two points a minute into the fourth quarter when Columbus' leading scorer Jacqueria Gunter went down with a knee injury. Gunter, who scored 16 points to lead the Blue Devils, never returned to the game. The Raiders went on an 11-2 run immediately after Gunter left the game to lead by 11 points with 2:42 to play in the game.<br /> <br /> Columbus (30-2) never pulled closer than eight points the rest of the game.<br /> <br /> Elmore, who has signed with Memphis, added 10 steals and six assists for the Raiders, who outscored Columbus 17-9 in the fourth quarter.
