CLARKESVILLE - The exact cause of a restaurant fire that spread to and heavily damaged several businesses on the Clarkesville Square about 11 p.m. Wednesday is listed as "undetermined" as of Thursday evening.
Glenn Allen in Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens' office said the investigation into the blaze that started at Sweet Breads on East Water Street is ongoing.
The State Fire Marshal's Office sent two investigators and an accelerant-detection dog, Cotton, who spent most of the day Thursday at the fire scene.
"Investigators have taken samples and sent them off to the crime lab for analysis," Allen said.
Asked for a timetable on when those lab results might be available, Allen said, "It could be sometime next week before the results are back."
Two agents from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also participated in Thursday's investigation of the fire scene in downtown Clarkesville.
