CLEVELAND - The City of Cleveland has finalized a date for a public hearing to discuss the sale of distilled spirits, or liquor by the drink by food establishments within the city.

The city council recently approved the sale of beer and wine, and last month restaurant owner Ed Ward ask the council to put the question of distilled spirits sales to the voters.

The council has set Thursday, March 27, as the date for a public hearing on the issue.

Mayor Don Stanley said at Monday's council meeting it's a time for the public to speak up.

"We'll have the zoning board and also the alcohol board both to be here for the meeting, of course we would like to get the most input from as many different people as we can," Stanley said.

While discussing the issue, Councilman Rush Mauney said he had heard from some business and city residents wanting the council to let the citizens decide on other alcohol sales issues.

"I know Sunday sales is something that has come up in all the surrounding communities around us in the last two years," Mauney said. "Everybody has practically voted for that."

The public hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. March 27, and will be held at Cleveland City Hall Annex on South Main Street.
