By late afternoon Monday, three more Hall County candidates had signed up to run: State Sen. Butch Miller and State Rep. Carl Rogers, who plan to seek re-election to their current posts, and Kathy Cooper, who qualified for the Post 1 seat on the Hall County Board of Commissioners. All plan to run as Republicans. In addition, Republican 9th District U.S. Representative Doug Collins of Gainesville had also qualified to seek another term.
Earlier in the day, Northeastern Judicial Circuit Superior Court judges C. Andrew Fuller and Jason Deal, both of Gainesville, had qualified with the Georgia Secretary of State's Office to run for the another term. Their races will be non-partisan.
Also at the Secretary of State's Office were three members of the Hall County state legislative delegation: representatives Lee Hawkins and Emory Dunahoo, both Republicans. Republican State Senator John Wilkinson of Toccoa, who represents a portion of Hall County, also qualified.
Some local candidates - Democrats, some non-partisans, and others - will be qualifying this week with the Hall County Elections Office. Republican candidates will be qualifying with the Hall County Republican Party.
As of 12:30, only State Court Judge Larry Baldwin had qualified at the elections office to seek another term. (His will be a non-partisan race.) But, things were hopping at The Stanley Firm, where Republican qualifying was taken place.
By 12:30, according to information posted on Twitter by Paul Stanley, seven candidates had qualified: challengers Mark Pettitt and Traci McBride for Hall County Board of Education Post 2; incumbent Sam Chapman for BOE Post 1; Scott Gibbs for another term on the Hall County Board of Commissioners; Ken Cochran and Tony Beatty for Post 1 on the Hall County Commission, a seat Craig Lutz is vacating for a run for State Public Service Commission; and Stephanie Woodard for Hall County State Court Solicitor.
