Hall County fires leads to road closures

GAINESVILLE - Hall County fire crews battled a pair of fires Sunday afternoon that led to two temporary road closures.

The first was a house fire that left a home damaged.

According to Hall County Fire Marshall Scott Cagle, the fire occurred in the 5000 block of Balus Drive, where firefighters found a 2,500 square foot structure with heavy fire and smoke conditions showing.

A family of three at the home all escpaed without injury. Cagle said the occupants stated the fire was first sighted outside on the back deck of the home. The property was about 75% damaged.

The blaze remains under investigation. The road was shut down for a period of time.

Hall County fire fighters also had to fight a structure fire on Old Cornelia Highway later in the day.

According to Cagle, fire crews were called out at 5:02 pm to a possible commercial structure fire in the 5500 block of Old Cornelia Highway, where the found a 3,500 square foot structure about 30% involved with heavy fire.

Cagle said the structure was used for storage and had no power, but had a recent history of break ins.

The blaze was extinguised without injuries, while the road was blocked for a period of time. It remains under investigation.
