Qualifying begins Monday for May primaries

GAINESVILLE - Qualifying begins Monday for the May 20 General Election primaries in Georgia.

Voters will be filling hundreds of local posts this year, a number of federal, state and local positions, including the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Saxby Chambliss and all of the state's congressional posts as well as state legislative seats.

Qualifying will conclude on Friday.

In Hall County, these are the offices that will be voted on, according to the county elections office:

State Senate - (incumbents Butch Miller, John Wilkinson)

State Representative - (incumbents Emory Dunahoo, Tommy Farr, Lee Hawkins, Carl Rogers)

District Attorney - incumbent Lee Darragh.

State Court Solicitor-General - (Stephanie Woodard)

County Commission  Posts 1 (incumbent Craig Lutz) & 3 (incumbent Scott Gibbs (NOTE: Lutz is not seeking re-election. Plans to run for Public Service Commission.)

Board of Education  Post 1 (incumbent Sam Chapman), 2 (incumbent Brian Sloan) & At Large (Bill Thompson).

Judge, Superior Court - (incumbents Jason Deal, C. Andrew Fuller)

Judge, State Court - (incumbent Larry Baldwin)

Congress - Doug Collins

STATEWIDE OFFICES:

U.S. Senate

Governor

Lieutenant Governor

Secretary of State

Attorney General

Commissioner of Agriculture

Commissioner of Insurance

State School Superintendent

Commissioner of Labor

Public Service Commissioner

Justice, Supreme Court of Georgia (4 seats)


The deadline to register to vote in the May 20 primaries is April 21.
