Piedmont women continue dominant run in tennis

DEMOREST -- The Piedmont College women's tennis team has been on fire NBA Jams style as of late as they took a third straight 9-0 decision shutting out visiting Mary Baldwin College Saturday at Burgen Tennis Courts.<br /> <br /> The Lady Lions stayed perfect in USA South play with the result as they have started out strong not dropping a set in league play through two matches, both of which have come at home.<br /> <br /> The Lady Lions saw a pair of singles decisions go 6-0, 6-0 with Nicole Parrish and Ashley Fannon doing so at #3 and #5 singles respectively. Getting the win for Piedmont at the #1 spot was Katie Sailors as she won 6-3, 6-1 with the Lady Lions not dropping a set on the afternoon. <br /> <br /> At #2 singles, Viola Terschluse won 6-1, 6-3 over Kelly of Mary Baldwin while Amanda Blackwell and Kelley Miller accounted for the remaining wins in singles action with Blackwell taking a victory at the #4 spot 6-3, 6-1. Miller's win came at the #6 slot with a 6-0, 6-1 victory as she brings her singles record to 3-1 in her debut season with the team.<br /> <br /> In doubles action, Sailors and Fannon continued their hot streak as the #1 pair winning 8-3 to take their third straight doubles decision with all three coming at the top spot. Moving up to the #2 doubles spot was Viola Terschluse and Laura Goodwin who move to 3-1 overall as a pair but pick up their first win as the #2 pairing. At the #3 slot, newcomer Haley Hall made her Lady Lion tennis debut with Amanda Blackwell as they picked up a 8-0 shutout together over MacLaughlin and Heatherington of Mary Baldwin.<br /> <br /> Piedmont moves to 3-1 now on the season having taken their second straight decision in USA South action. The Lady Lions now will travel to conference member William Peace University six days from today to continue their 2014 schedule. The March 7th match is set for a 3:00 pm start in Raleigh, North Carolina and is the first road test for PC since their season opener at Sewanee.
