LAWRENCEVILLE -- Three Buford pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts and allowed just four hits in taking a 6-1 win over Hebron Christian Saturday at Coolray Field.

The game was part of series of games featuring area teams over several weekends at the home of the Gwinnett Braves.

Junior Jake Higginbotham, a Clemson-commit, opened with three scoreless innings, fanning four and yielding three hits. He would get the win after the Wolves (1-0) scored three times in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead.

Junior Kevin Coulter went two innings striking out three and allowing one unearned run. Buford had taken a 5-0 at that point and the Wolves committed two errors in the fifth for Hebron's only run.

Connor Bennett pitched the final two innings striking out five of the eight batters he faced.

Joey Bart and Nick Wilhite each had two hits for Buford. Bart just missed a home run smacking a double off the centerfield fence.

Jake Mayo had a double, a sacrifice fly, and two RBI, Austin Upshaw had a triple and and one RBI, and Freeman Edwards had a hit and an RBI for the Wolves.

Buford coach Tony Wolfe said it was a great atmosphere.

"It was fun to be able to play there and a good experience for the kids," Wolfe said. "You get to see the locker rooms and everything. We had a good crowd for a high school baseball game."

Wolfe estimated the crowd and nearly 500 people.
