GAINESVILLE -- North Hall baseball knew it might have to do some growing up early in the 2014 season.

On Friday, the Trojans -- who graduated their entire starting pitching staff from 2013's Class AAA runner-up -- showed they are growing indeed.

North Hall earned its first win of the young season courtesy a 13-3 defeat of Chestatee in Gainesville.

Josh Hammond earned the win on the mound for the Trojans (1-2), pitching six innings while scattering five hits and striking out four batters. Dylan Lavender also tossed one inning in relief, striking out one War Eagle batter.

Meanwhile, Stephen Murray led way at the plate for North Hall, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Micah Strickland also put up three RBI, while Andrew Smith finished 2-for-3. Lincoln Hewett also finished 2-4, while Fowler Brooks produced two RBI.

North Hall will look to continue its rise on Tuesday when the Trojans travel to Lanier.

Chestatee, meanwhile, will look to bounce back on Saturday against Dawson County in Gainesville.
