CUMMING - Authorities have filed malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault charges against a Butts County man in the beating death of a Forsyth County boy this week.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Rainwater said the upgraded charges were filed Friday morning against 25-year-old Christopher Truett in the death of 3-year-old Wyatt Pruitt, his girlfriend's son.

"We had been waiting for the autopsy to be completed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the preliminary autopsy was released yesterday," said Rainwater. "Our command staff along with our criminal investigations section got together and read over the report...the report says that the cause of death is blunt force trauma."

Rainwater said he could not offer further details on how the child died.

Truett had originally been charged with cruelty to children in the first degree and reckless conduct in the death, and Rainwater said those charges remain in place.

Rainwater said a 4-year-old sibling of the victim has been placed in the custody of state children's services. At this time, the mother is not considered a suspect or person of interest in the incident.

Wyatt Pruitt was found unresponsive at a home in the Bridgetowne subdivision off Brown's Bridge Road Tuesday around 11 a.m. The child was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later at Northside Hospital-Forsyth.
