The Chestatee boys and girls tennis teams split matches on Thursday night with Madison County in Gainesville.

The War Eagles fell to 2-1 with a 5-0 loss to 2013 Class AAAA runner-up Red Raiders at Chestatee Thursday night.

The Chestatee girls, meanwhile, improved to 3-0 on the season with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Madison County

The Lady War Eagles trailed 2-1 after the singles matches were complete, but tied the team score by dominating the No. 1 doubles match, as Haley King and Grace Brown defeated the Lady Red Raiders' Anna Crouse and Kassey Conner 6-1, 6-1. With the teams tied it all came down to the No. 2 doubles match. Senior Lady War Eagles volleyball standout Melanie Smith, playing her first year of varsity tennis, and her partner, 3-year varsity starter senior Carolina Gijon, dug deep and outlasted Madison County's Melody Montgomery and Josie McKenzie to pull out a marathon 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3) victory that included a 15-minute delay when the automatic lights went out and had to be re-set.

Chestatee's Fernanda Arcaraz won the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-4 over Abby Thrasher while the Lady Red Raiders' Maranda Dove defeated Lily Kiang at #1 and Morgan Dooley won over Chestatee's Adasery Osorno at No. 3 singles.

Chestatee returns to action on Tuesday when it plays host to Lumpkin County.
