Three days after sweeping through the first round, Region 7-AAA girls playoff teams had a rough night Monday in the second round. Of the four teams playing, only Buford, with a hard-fought victory over Decatur, advanced through to the quarterfinals.

The Lady Wolves will be joined in the quarterfinals by fellow area teams Jefferson, North Forsyth and Towns County.

Buford's girls rallied for a win over Decatur, while North Hall fell to a late rally by Woodward Academy -- 64-62 -- East Hall lost to St. Pius, and Dawson County lost to Morgan County Monday in GHSA second round Class AAA playoff basketball games around the area.

(NOTE: See below for a complete list of area scores and second round playoff schedule.)

In Class AA, the Jefferson girls held off Manchester 44-33 to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2006, when the Lady Dragons made the "Final Four" in Class A. Fellow Region 8-AA competitor Rabun County fell at Kendrick, 90-34.

In Class AAAAAA, Caroline Bowns scored 29 points to lead North Forsyth to a 64-49 win over Duluth to move into the Elite 8.

In Class A, Towns County's girls picked up a road win at Gordon Lee, 64-56, to move into the quarterfinals, while the Lakeview Academy girls could not hold a first half lead as Mt. Paran Christian rallied for a 52-49 victory to knock out the Lady Lions.

The win for the Lady Wolves moved Buford into the quarterfinals for the eighth straight season. Buford will play host to Woodward Academy on Wednesday in the Class AAA quarterfinals, tip-time to be announced.

North Forsyth, meanwhile, made history by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time. Coach Eric Herrick's Lady Raiders had reached the second round in consecutive seasons. North Forsyth will travel to face Archer on Wednesday, tip-time to be announced.

Towns County also extended its streak of winning a first round playoff game to seven straight seasons. The Lady Indians will travel to take on Randolph-Clay on Wednesday, tip-time to be announced.

In Class AA, Jefferson faces state powerhouse Wesleyan on Wednesday at home, tip-time to be announced.

On Tuesday, five area boys teams -- Buford, Dawson County, East Hall, Jefferson and Johnson -- will look to join their counterparts in the round of eight.
