CLAYTON - Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa has released details of a fatal single-vehicle wreck that occurred in Rabun County about 8 p.m. Friday.

Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee said 50-year-old Jerry Dale Armstrong, with addresses in Clayton and in Ellsworth, Kan., died in the crash on U.S. Highway 76.

Coffee said Armstrong's 2001 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Highway 76 when the driver traveled onto the right shoulder, over corrected and crossed the double yellow line into the westbound lane.

The vehicle overturned, coming to final rest on its top in a roadside ditch facing east.

Coffee said Armstrong, who was wearing his seatbelt, was alone in the vehicle at the time of the wreck. He died of his injuries.

Results of standard blood tests are pending.
