SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a 9-year-old Georgia boy has died at a Savannah hospital after being shot in the head.

Effingham County sheriff's officials say the shooting happened Thursday evening at a residence in the county just northwest of Savannah.

They say that Landry Oliver, a student at Marlow Elementary, was shot with a .22-caliber rifle as he and an 11-year-old neighbor where playing in Oliver's backyard. The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/1cBi5eQ ) that the rifle had been in a shed.

Effingham County sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor says the 11-year-old immediately told a 13-year-old inside the house, and the older child reported the shooting to adults who called 911.

Ehsanipoor said no charges have been filed, and there are "no immediate signs of foul play."

An autopsy is set for Monday.
