Soccer round-up: West Hall boys, White County girls claim Mountain Cup

GAINESVILLE -- The West Hall boys soccer team repeated as Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup champions on Friday, defeating North Hall 1-0 in Gainesville.

Defense dominated the match, allowing few shots on either goal -- though the Spartans broke through in the opening moments of the second half on a perfectly-taken free kick from Omar Castillo, who scored from 19 yards.

West Hall impressed during tournament play, as Cesar Villa (two goals and an assist), Sammy Coto (two goals), Simon Cobian (goal), Issac Castruita (goal) and Johann Corona (goal) each scored during the competition.

Eduardo Magana, Omar Castillo, Jordan Moreno and Ronald Portillo each made the All-Tournament team for the Spartans.


WHITE COUNTY GIRLS 3,
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 1


The White County girls rebounded from a halftime deficit to claim the Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup on Friday in Gainesville.

Jenna Gearing, Savanna Magill and Megan Norris each bagged goals to lead the Lady Warriors to a 3-1 win over Lakeview Academy at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

Carmen Wagner scored to put the Lady Lions up 1-0 at the half, but White County (3-1) fired back to claim the crown.

The Lady Warriors defeated Winder-Barrow 4-0 on Thursday to reach the title game. Savanna Magill scored a hat trick and Nile Fox also scored in the win.

The Lady Warriors play host to North Hall at 5 p.m. Tuesday in their first region match of the season.

The Spartans scored early at the 37th minute in the first half before the game settled into a defensive battle for both teams, as West Hall claimed the third place spot in the Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup on Friday in Gainesville.


NORTH HALL GIRLS 3,
WINDER-BARROW 0


Bekah Stephens scored two goals to help the Lady Trojans to their first win of the season on Friday in the consolation round of the Northeast Georgia Mountain Cup Tournament in Gainesville.

Katie Estrada also scored for North Hall (1-2), which pulled away from a scoreless first half.

The Lady Trojans will travel to face White County on Tuesday.

Alyssa Turner and Gabby Nunez each scored twice, as the Lady Red Elephants (1-0-1) romped to a win on Friday.

Margaret Carpenter also scored and added an assist for Gainesville, while Mandy Lochstampfor also had an assist.

The Lady Red Elephants will travel to play at Central Gwinnett on Saturday.

LUMPKIN COUNTY 0


Gage Turner kept the shutout in goal for the Red Elephants, as the Indians held Gainesville to a draw on Friday.

The Red Elephants (1-0-1) play North Forsyth on Tuesday at City Park.
