CUMMING - Forsyth County Schools Supt. L.C. (Buster) Evans plans to retire from public education June 30. He made the announcement at Thursday night's school board meeting at which plans to make up some of the days missed this winter because of the weather were announced.

Though retiring from public education, Dr. Evans plans to continue working on learning and career development opportunities for adults.

Dr. Evans joined Forsyth County Schools in 2007. He has worked for 30 years in public education, including seven years as superintendent of Forsyth County Schools and eleven years as superintendent of Bleckley County Schools.

"Forsyth County Schools has a belief that 'expectations influence accomplishments because everyone has the capacity to learn'," Board Chairperson Darla Light said. "From his leadership in and outside the system to his outside interests and hobbies, Dr. Evans embodies the idea of building personal capacity for lifelong learning. He sets the example with his high personal expectations and is an inspiration to all."

The school board will release a superintendent search timeline next week. For more information contact Chairperson Darla Light at [email protected].

MAKE-UP DAYS

Given that Forsyth students are in the classroom for more minutes than the state requirement and that the state has provided make up flexibility to districts, it was decided that that:

· School will be held on Monday, March 17 and Monday, April 21, which are listed as inclement weather days on the 2013-14 school calendar.

· Friday, March 14 will be a full day of school for students. This day was originally scheduled as an early release day for parent conference day. Parent conferences will be held before or after school on March 24-28 and April 7-11.

Also, the group decided to move CRCT (testing) dates for elementary and middle schools five days later in April, and to adjust the third and fourth 9 weeks grading and reporting calendar. Both calendar revisions are posted at www.forsyth.k12.ga.us. In addition to May 27 and 28, May 29 and 30 will be post planning days for teachers. Calendars for all employees will be revised and adopted next week.
