Braselton, Flowery Branch, Gainesville, Lula, Oakwood and Hall County were all awarded varying amounts of funding. DOT spokeswoman Teri Pope said each entity submitted a plan that was approved by the DOT.
Hall County received the largest amount of funds at $1,338,977.84. The county used $338,977.84 to rehabilitate bridges on county roads.
"They [Hall County] saved their $1 million allotment from last year to go with $1 million of their 1.3 million from last year," said Pope. "So they banked part of it from last year to put with this year's money so they can do a major reconstruction project on McEver Road."
"In addition to that, they got $150,000 of economic development money to improve Arrowhead Road."
The city of Lula received the least amount of funds at $25,240.44 towards resurfacing McClure Drive.
"The monies are based on a formula of population and lane miles," said Pope. "So you can see the difference in Hall County's population and lane miles, versus the city of Lula's."
In addition, $33,980.34 was awarded to the City of Oakwood for the resurfacing of a portion of McClure Drive.
Flowery Branch received $39,919.70 to resurface parts of five roadways: Mulberry Street, Railroad Avenue, Church Street, Tanner Street and Gainesville Street.
Braselton was awarded $52,893.68 for the patching and resurfacing of Spout Springs Road within town limits and the resurfacing of a portion of Riverview Parkway, from SR 211 to Ansley Terrace.
The City of Gainesville received the second highest amount of $234,988.43. The city will resurface over 2 miles of ten different city streets.
The awards are for the 2014 fiscal year and are awarded annually through the Local Maintenance and Improvements Grant (LMIG) program.
"The program was changed about two years ago," said Pope. "So we're very excited to be able to offer more assistance to cities and counties now than we were able to in the past."
