There were reports of several homes damaged in central Georgia and trees toppled across north Georgia after a fast-moving line of thunderstorms brought high winds and plunging temperatures to the region.

The Courier Herald in Dublin reports that more than 50 homes in northern Laurens County were impacted by a storm Friday, with debris scattered across yards and on rooftops. There were no immediate reports of injuries there.

Preliminary reports to the National Weather Service indicate that several trees were down on U.S. Highway 11 in Dade County Friday morning, after the line of storms rolled through the state's northwest corner.

In Floyd County, there were reports of several power lines down.

In Cobb County, there were many reports of toppled trees. A 58 mph wind gust was reported at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta.

NORTHEAST GEORGIA

There were reports of trees and powerlines down across northeast Georgia before daybreak.

Trees were down in Forsyth County at Castleberry and Bethelview roads and in Habersham County on Georgia 197 at Watts Mill near Mark of the Potter. In addition, powerlines were down in Dawson County on Georgia 136 at Bailey Waters.

Power outages were also an issue. At 6:30, Georgia Power was reporting 15,000 of its customers, mostly in western parts of metro Atlanta, were in the dark. About 400 Jackson EMC and 70 Habersham EMC customers were also affected.

The top wind gust in Gainesville at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport was 39 mph, and as the storm system moved through, the temperature plunged rapidly. It was 62 at 6:30 and by 9:00 had fallen 14 degrees to 48, where it leveled off. Rainfall totaled 0.58 inches at the airport.
