8-AAAAA tournament: GHS girls finish third, Red Elephants fall, take fourth seed

LOGANVILLE -- The Gainesville girls basketball team fought past Loganville on Wednesday to garner third place in Region 8-AAAAA.

The Lady Red Elephants battled through overtime to notch the win, edging out Loganville 47-45.

Taylor Hawks led Gainesville with 19 points, while Tamia Rucker added eight points.

Gainesville will travel to take on Tucker in the first round of the Class AAAAA state tournament on Friday.

The Gainesville boys basketball team could use a few days to regroup after a rough Region 8-AAAAA Tournament.

One day after a 66-42 loss to Clarke Central, the Elephants fell 67-50 to Salem in the third-place game Wednesday at the Loganville High gym.

No individual stats were available.

Gainesville will be the fourth seed from 8-AAAAA and take the winner of the Region 6-AAAAAA final between Miller Grove and Stephenson on Saturday in the first round of the state playoffs.
