COMMERCE -- The Lakeview Academy girls basketball team saw its region championship hopes halted at the hands of George Walton Academy on Tuesday in a 44-37 loss in the 8-A title game at Commerce.

The Lady Lions (20-8) have enjoyed an impressive turnaround this season and are set to get back into the state tournament after a one-season absence. Play in the Class A tournament will begin on Monday -- the GHSA will announce the seedings for the public/private Class A postseason later in the week.

Schyler Miller led Lakeview on Tuesday with 11 points, while Danielle Morgan and Marley Rochester each put up six points.

Sonora Pitts paced George Walton with a game-high 13 points.

Patrick Avery also scored 14 and grabbed five rebounds, while JB Britte added 10 points.

The Lions took the lead in the second half and helped their own cause by sinking 15 of 17 free throw attempts.

Lakeview will await the power ratings to see if they qualify for the Class A private playoffs.
