The school has lost six days so far this semester.
UNG President Bonita Jacobs said the calendar will be extended by using days between the originally scheduled exam period and commencement. Finals will begin on May 2, and the exams originally scheduled for Monday, April 28 through Thursday, May 1 will be moved one week later to May 5-8.
"We are fortunate to have these days available between the end of finals and commencement, as not all universities do and some may be using days from spring break," Jacobs said in the announcement. "These are unusual circumstances, and this plan will help ensure our students are able to complete their coursework successfully and in a timely manner."
"The weather this year has presented significant challenges for academic instruction," said Dr. Patricia L. Donat, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. "I hope that with the announcement by the President today regarding the extension of the semester, faculty members will be able to adjust syllabi to ensure that all originally planned student learning outcomes can still be met."
Donat also noted that faculty members would be planning for virtual or asynchronous instruction that could be implemented if the university has any additional weather cancellations this semester.

Also, this week's inclement weather has impacted the following university events and deadlines.
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions has extended the deadline for regular admission baccalaureate applications from Feb. 15 to Feb. 21. Prospective freshman baccalaureate students should submit their application for fall 2014 and all supporting documents by this deadline to be considered for acceptance during regular admission. Notification of freshman class acceptances will be mailed by March 7, instead of March 1, to ensure that the admission staff has time to evaluate and process application files. The admission deadline for fall 2014 for prospective students seeking associate degrees is July 1.
