ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia utility companies report that more than 180,000 customers in the state are still without power after a storm blanketed the region with snow and ice.

Georgia Power reported that about 111,000 customers were without service Friday morning. The vast majority are in east Georgia, with roughly 93,000 in and around Augusta. Georgia Power says it expects to have power restored to nearly all of its customers by late Saturday night.

The state's electric membership cooperatives, or EMCs, say that about 70,400 of their customers were without power Friday morning. EMC officials say power has been restored to more than 217,000 customers of the EMCs since the storm began.

The numbers have been fluctuating as crews restored power and new outages were reported, but showed a downward trend early Friday.
