OAKWOOD - Hall County firefighters received no reprieve following this week's winter storm, being called Thursday afternoon to a fire near Oakwood.

According to Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle, crews responded around 3:30 p.m. to reports of a house fire in the 5200-block of Flat Creek Road.

Upon arrival, Cagle said firefighters discovered an approximately 2,000-square-foot home that was showing heavy fire stemming from the garage area.

"It took several firefighters to finally bring the fire under control," Cagle said.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and Cagle said there were no reported injuries to either civilians or members of the firefighting crew.

Cagle said the damage to the house was fairly severe.

"Right now, the early estimates on the damage of this fire is around $100,000," he added.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
