Next weekend's penultimate meet of the campaign will feature plenty of wrestlers from around the area -- with plenty of those grapplers expected to medal after strong state sectional performances.
Commerce will certainly be amongst the favorites in Class A.
The reigning Class A dual champs placed all 13 wrestlers that competed in this weekend's sectionals at the traditional finals, with six competitors taking the top seed and four more finishing second.
"It was a great day for Commerce wrestling," Tigers coach Kendall Love said. "Ten wrestlers in the finals sets things up for a good shot at a team title next weekend."
Amongst the top seeds were Dalton Flint (106 pounds), Mitchell Patton (113), Austin Brock (120), Trent Reddish (160), Greyson Cochran (170) and Chance McClure (220).
Michael Patton (132), Tyreke Wiggins (152), Dontavious Mosley (182) and Morgan Flint (195) each finished second, while Cole Chancey (138), Jake Pate (145) finished third and Derek Benoit (285) fourth.
Meanwhile, in Class AAA, Buford will send eight to the championship meet, including five first place seeds: Jack Barber (126), Brayden Hartley (132), Trent Ferguson (138), Rudy Guillen (145) and Chip Ness (195).
The Wolves' Eli Hartley (106 ) and Darius Bunch (120) each took No. 2 seeds, while Justin Loredo (220) qualified for the finals with a fourth seed.
It was part of a dominating performance for Area 4-AAA grapplers on the weekend, which also included seven North Hall wrestlers.
"Our area is taking 45 wrestlers; the other area is only taking 11 wrestlers," Trojans coach Jay Hargis said. "We took seven down and we're taking seven to state; you can't ask for much more than that. I am so proud of what the guys this year have been able to do."
North Hall's Caleb Hamilton (120) will enter the finals as a No. 1 seed, while Michael Carew (132) and Darrien Ingram (195) took second seeds. Meanwhile, Tyler Marett (113) is a No. 3 seed and David Blush (138), Matthew Scabuzzo (145) and Isaiah Hale (182) are each fourth seeds.
West Hall's Elliott Raiford (152) also continued his stellar season, advancing as a No. 1 seed.
In Class AAAA, Lumpkin County pushed 10 wrestlers through to the championship round, including sectional winner Greg Hilliard (132). Victor Ramos (170) also placed second, while Logan Brown (106), Tristin Duckworth (113), Daniel Locklear (145), Andrew Davis (152) and Zach Matthews (182) each finished third. Moving on as a No. 5 seed were Eddie Daniel (160) and Justin Cantrell (220), while Cole Mayo (195) was seventh.
Traditional wrestling begins on Thursday next week at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth with preliminary rounds for Classes AAAA-AAAAAA. Classes A-AAA will get underway Friday, with all championship rounds taking place Saturday.
