Boys basketball: Johnson dunks Walnut Grove

OAKWOOD -- The Johnson boys basketball team defeated Walnut Grove 77-49 on Tuesday in Oakwood.

The Knights jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter. Walnut grove opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 22-18 Johnson surged back ahead for a 40-30 lead at the half. Johnson continued to push ahead, outscoring Walnut Grove 18-8 to take a 58-38 lead heading into the fourth. The Knights extended the lead to the final margin with a 19-11 fourth quarter.

Johnson (19-5, 6-1 Region 8-AAAA) was led by Justin Jones with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ty Cockfield scored 19 points and added five rebounds and five assists. Drew Dunham pitched in 11 points and six assists. Rod English contributed nine points, six rebounds, and five steals.

Walnut Grove (12-12) was led by Adrian Price with 18 points.

Johnson is back in action Thursday night at home against Monroe Area at 7:30 p.m.
