Penalties will now be labeled in order of significance, with P1 being the least significant and P6 being the most significant. NASCAR may select to fine or deduct points for penalties ranging from P1 to P3, while penalties from P4 to P6, being more serious infractions, will see a loss of points, fines and possible suspensions.
Those more serious infractions would include circumventing NASCAR templates, unapproved added weight, engine violations, traction control and more.
An example would include, for an engine violation, the team would faced a loss of 150 driver's points, 150 owner's points, a fine ranging from $150,000 - $200,000, and the suspension of the team's crew chief for six points races.
