Literacy group to benefit from Habersham spelling bee

MT. AIRY - The top spellers from Habersham County's 11 elementary and middle schools will face off this Thursday 6 in the Habersham County Scripps Spelling Bee.

The county-wide spelling bee will be held at the Habersham Central High School Auditorium, and the event begins at 6 p.m.

The event, whichis free and open to the public, is sponsored by Volunteers for Literacy of Habersham County.

The winner of Thursday's competition will advance to the District Scripps Spelling Bee in March.

Organizers say trophies will be awarded to all participants, while cash prizes will be awarded to top two finishers. In addition, the school with the highest audience attendance will win an ice cream sandwich party.
