US stocks turn mixed after big slump Monday

NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks are mixed on Wall Street after suffering big losses the day before.

The Dow Jones industrial average eased three points to 15,368 shortly after the market opened on Tuesday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose three points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,745, and the Nasdaq gained 10 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,007.

The stock market is coming off its biggest one-day slump in more than seven months Monday. Stocks dropped after a survey showed U.S. manufacturing barely expanded last month.

Michael Kors, surged $14.33, or 19 percent, to $91 after the fashion retailer reported strong earnings from robust demand for its goods during the holiday period.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.62 percent from 2.58 percent.
