CLEVELAND - The White County Sheriff's Office has released some information about a single-vehicle accident that occurred Thursday north of Helen.

Capt. Tim Chapman said the accident was reported around 5 p.m. on Georgia Highway 75 north near Tray Mountain Road, and involved a 2002 silver Ford F-150 pickup, driven by William Canup of Hiawassee.

According to Chapman, Canup was traveling north on Highway 75 when he lost control and skidded approximately 350 feet off the road, striking a tree.

Canup, who was partially ejected from the vehicle as a result of the accident, was hurt seriously and was airlifted from downtown Helen to an Atlanta hospital for treatment.

Chapman advised Canup will be issued several citations when released from the hospital. He did not elaborate on those citations.
