Boys basketball: Johnson routs Madison Co. in 8-AAAA

DANIELSVILLE -- Johnson opened the game with a 15-0 and then cruised to a 100-70 Region 8-AAAA win over Madison County Saturday in boys basketball action.

Madison County battled back to close the gap to 23-16 after the 1st quarter but the Knights (17-5, 4-1 8-AAAA) pushed their lead to 45-34 by halftime.

Johnson led 69-55 going into the fourth quarter and blew the game open with a 31-15 blitz over the final eight minutes.

The Knights had five players in double-figures, led by James Hodges with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Ty Cockfield scored 23, Justin Jones added 17 points, Drew Dunham chipped in 14 points, and Rod English finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Johnson. Carter Cagle was big on the glass leading the game with 12 rebounds.

Madison County was led by Malik Freeman with 20 points. Kirkland Moon scored 14, and Ryan Moon scored 13 for the Red Raiders.

Johnson will be back in action Monday night at Chestatee in a makeup game from last week.
