Wrestling: Banks, Jefferson, Branch dominate opening day at area tourneys

ELBERTON -- Banks County sits in first with 107 points after the first day of the Area 4-AAA wrestling tournament at Elbert County Friday night.

Buford with 85 1/2 points is second and North Hall with 76 points is third. The semifinals, consolations, and finals will be held Saturday at Elbert County.

Banks County placed six in the semifinals while Buford had eight wrestlers advance to the semifinals. For Buford, Eli Hartley (106-pounds), Darius Bunch (120), Jack Barber (126), Brayden Hartley (132), Trent Ferguson (138), Rudy Guillen (145), Joe Salas (160), and Chip Ness (195) all advanced.

For North Hall, Tyler Marett (113), Caleb Hamilton (120), Michael Carew (132), David Blush (138), Isaiah Hale (182), and Darrien Ingram (195) all advanced to the semifinals.

In the Area 8-AAAAA Tournament at C.W. Davis Middle School in Flowery Branch, the host Falcons have 13 wrestlers still alive in the tournament and guaranteed top six finishes.

The Falcons had 10 place in the semifinals and three in the consolation semifinals. In the semifinals for Flowery Branch are Marshall Johnson (106), Ronny Link (113), Ian Augero (120), Nolan Alspach (126), Stephen Kercher (132), Brady Dyer (145), Zach Winter (152), Quinten Newman (160), Grant Simonds (182), and Davante King (195). In the consolation semifinals are Ty Scott (138), Amedeus Martinez (170), and David Galaviz (220).

In the Area 4-AA Tournament being held at Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross, Jefferson had 13 of 14 wrestlers advance to the semifinals.

For the Dragons, Price Goiner (113), Ben Kelly (120), Chase Tiperato (126), Tanner Thurman (132), Tyler Marinelli (138), Jack Dollar (145), Zach Boobas (152), Bam Little (160), Zach Rhymer (170), Tradd Porter (182), Desean Lester (195), Michael Paolozzi (220), and Jackson Bowen (285) all advanced to the semifinals.

Commerce is playing host to the Area 4-A meet, which will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
after being postponed a day due to inclement weather.

Action in the other area tournaments will resume Saturday at the same venues.
