ATLANTA (AP) -- Gov. Nathan Deal has appointed an ally in the General Assembly as the next commissioner of the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Deal announced Friday state Rep. Lynne Riley, a Republican from Johns Creek, will lead the department beginning Jan. 11. She'll replace outgoing Commissioner Doug MacGinnitie.

Riley was one of the governor's House floor leaders, serving as a liaison between Deal and state lawmakers. Deal spokesman Brian Robinson said MacGinnitie had planned to serve one term before returning to the private sector.

Deal says Riley, who has her own accounting firm, brings "three decades of accounting experience and expertise on tax policy." MacGinnitie says, in four years, the department has achieved many goals, including "improved customer service, modernization of technology and increased compliance."
