In the past, the courthouse encountered the dilemma of not having available courtrooms to hold court sessions.
"This new jail courtroom will alleviate some issues of trying to schedule court in the courthouse with only two State courtrooms available," according to State Court Judge Gene Roberts.
According to the sheriff's office, some key benefits to the new jail courtroom are: allows for public access to the jail court proceedings, reduces the number of inmates transported outside the jail, adds an additional courtroom for use by the judges when courtrooms are sparse and allows for a location to train Sheriff's Office employees on courtroom security/testimony.
"We are very excited about the future usage of the courtroom," Sheriff Couch said. "This addition will benefit both the Sheriff's Office and Court Administration. Our judges can hold small hearings, probation revocations, un-represented jail pleas, represented jail pleas and handle multiple cases during any particular calendar with the inmates readily available."
