GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Republican Party is scheduled to hold a debate among its U.S. Senate candidates in Gainesville February 22, and Brenau's Pearce Auditorium has been chosen as the debate site.

According to Brenau University, the debate is the third in a series of seven the party has scheduled for candidates vying for the GOP nod. Senator Saxby Chambliss is not running for re-election to the seat.

"You do not have to probe too deeply into the volumes of international news reports and punditry that has already occurred to understand the significance of this election in the future of our country's politics and government," Brenau University President Ed Schrader said.

The debate is open to the public, but seating is limited, according to the university.

Tickets guaranteeing a spot in the audience are available on a first-come, first-served basis through the state party or the various candidates' campaigns, according to Brenau.

The debate is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
