Boys basketball: Johnson boys tripped up in 8-AAAA race for first

CONVINGTON -- The Johnson boys basketball team lost a region game on the road, 62-57 to Eastside in a battle for first place in Region 8-AAAA on Friday in Convington.

Eastside jumped out to an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and led 30-26 at the half. The Eagles outscored Johnson 17-14 in the third quarter to take a 47-40 lead into the fourth. Johnson closed the deficit to one possession, but Eastside went 9-of-11 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the game.

Johnson shot 8-of-17 from the foul line.

James Hodges led the Knights with 23 pts and 16 rebounds.

Treyvon Francis scored 24 and Marquise Sims scored 14 for Eastside.

Johnson (15-5, 3-1) plays at West Hall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
