Gibbs has been in office since January 2011.
"The County was on dangerous financial ground when I first took office and the board had to make some big changes very quickly," Gibbs said in making the announcement. "As a result of those changes, the county has gone from a $6 million to a $23 million general fund reserve, has employees off furlough days, has departments operating more efficiently and has done it all without raising property taxes."
Gibbs said that if re-elected "my primary goals will be to keep improving our infrastructure in order to attract business and encourage positive economic growth to this area, to continue keeping costs to taxpayers down while maintaining quality services and to help keep our citizens safe by adding public safety facilities, like fire stations and police precincts, where they are lacking. As the economy improves, I'd love to see us do more for the county employees that have done a tremendous job to help reach all these goals during some very tough times."
Gibbs, 49, lives in North Hall with his wife Jennifer and son David.
