The site Whitmire had chosen was at the end of Mountain View Road in the southern part of the county. He was asking that the four-acre site be rezoned from Single Family Residential to Planned Commercial District. His plans called for a 116-bay facility.
People who live and own property in that area had been fighting the proposal since its inception.
Also Thursday night, the commission tabled until a later meeting plans for a multi-use development on Georgia 365 north of Gainesville.
