Brenau considers Jacksonville, Fl. campus

GAINESVILLE - President Ed Schrader told the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Thursday at its regular meeting that Brenau University is looking at developing a campus in Jacksonville, Fl.

"This isn't a formal announcement we're going to establish a campus," said David Morrison, spokesman for the school. "We're looking at locations, we're talking to people about leases"

If all goes as planned, the campus would be Brenau's first out-of-state campus.

"It's not a done deal until we get everybody to approve it," Morrison said. "Anything that happens like that will be subject to accreditation and governmental approval."

Morrison said the Jacksonville area would complement the King's Bay campus that is already established.

"Being in that part of south Georgia, there's no place to really expand in south Georgia, no big commercial areas like that," said Morrison. "So that leaves the Jacksonville area as a likely prospect."

Morrison said the college was researching the area and looking for locations. Morrison said a residency requirement to open a business in Florida was also part of the equitation.

"We have to find some space and be there. We certainly can't say we have a branch in Jacksonville before the Florida Department of Education says we have a branch in Jacksonville," Morrison said.
