GAINESVILLE - Two men were arrested by Hall County authorities after they reported a fake crime last week.

Will Thompson Boykin, 44, and David Scott Bonds, 39, told the Sheriff's Office they had escaped a home invasion.

"Back on January 7, Hall County deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery and a false imprisonment," said Deputy Chad Mann. "Allegedly, two men... told officers that three armed men entered their home and Spring Street, tied them up and proceeded to ransack their home."

Mann said the two told investigators they were able to escape and then went to the Gainesville Police department. Upon discovering the office was closed, they then went to a hotel and called the Sheriff's Office.

"An investigation thereafter conducted by the Hall County Sheriff's Office CID determined that the pair just fabricated the story," said Mann. "The men told investigators they made up the whole story because it was cold outside and they needed shelter."

Both men were arrested without incident and charged with two counts each of false report of a crime. Each man's bond was set at $1,000.
