NORCROSS - A Gainesville man faces a long list of charges, including vehicular homicide in the first degree, in connection with a multi-vehicle crash Gwinnett County Thursday morning.

Gwinnett County police identified Jacob Nicholson, age 22, as the driver of a Honda Odyssey van that was speeding southbound on Singleton Road when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck six vehicles at the intersection of Jimmy Carter Boulevard. Police say all vehicles were stopped at the traffic light on South Norcross Tucker Rd. (Singleton Rd. changes its name to South Norcross Tucker Rd. when Jimmy Carter Blvd is crossed.)

Investigators said Nicholson was ejected from the van during the course of the crash. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The driver of one of the vehicles struck by Nicholson's van was Cynthia Norton, 59, of Norcross. Police said Norton died at the scene as the result of injuries she sustained.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett Police Department, Nicholson is expected to be charged with reckless driving, speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, no seatbelt, expired driver's license and vehicular homicide 1st degree.
