First component of new shopping center opening next week

GAINESVILLE - The first component of a new shopping center being built on the east side of Gainesville is about ready to open.

Kroger announced Thursdsay it will open its first Fuel Center in Gainesville next Wednesdsay, seven weeks before opening its new store at 1931 Jesse Jewell Parkway on March 12. Both will be a part of the New Holland Marketplace near the Jewell and Limestone parkway intersection.

"The Fuel Center is the first of many new amenities we look forward to offering our Gainesville-area customers," said Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger's Atlanta Division.

The Kroger store will be the primary anchor for the shopping center. Work began on the complex two years ago with an estimated price tag of $30 million for the first phase of the project. The total development plan calls for approximately 300,000 square feet of comprised of anchors and other commercial space in addition to nine out parcels.

The shopping center is being developed by Carolina Holdings, Inc., of Greenville, S.C.
