Longtime Ga. Road builder, Gainesville community leader dies

GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man whose company was responsible for thousands of miles of road work in Georgia has died.

Roger H. Brown, Sr., 92, died Tuesday at his home.

Brown was the longtime president of Southeastern Highway Contracting and was also active in civic and community affairs.

He was a past Vice Chairman of the Hall County Development Authority and had been a member of the Executive Board of the Northeast Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America. Brown was a past President (now Chairman) of the chamber of commerce in Gainesville and once served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Lanier Park Hospital (now a part of Northeast Georgia Health System).

He was a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers and had served as Chairman of the Georgia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Memorial Park Funeral Home North Riverside Chapel.
