CLEVELAND - The White County Board of Commissioners paid special recognition to Cleveland resident Betty Highsmith this week for her contribution to the community and education field.

A special proclamation to honor Highsmith was read by Commission Chairman Travis Turner, who acknowledged that Highsmith was his eighth-grade Georgia History teacher.

Highsmith has been an active community leader, especially working with the White County Historical Society.
