NWS updates Sat. storm damage rpt.; nearly 50 trees downed at Hall Co. park

The National Weather Service (NWS) says it has now documented damage reports from six Northeast Georgia counties following storms that hit parts of the state Saturday.

In addition, Hall County officials said Tuesday the mid-morning storms, which appear to have been strongest in the West Hall area, downed about 50 trees at River Forks Park which is off Browns Bridge Road just west of NcEver.

"We had over 40 trees down. No facility damage," Mike Little, the county Parks and Leisure Services Director said. The park consists of a couple of playgrounds, a fishing pier, a beach, picnic tables and pavilions, and restrooms.

At least two trees blocked Montgomery Drive near River Forks for a time Saturday morning, also blown down by the storm. (See earlier story. Second link below.)

The NWS says it has documented storm damage in not only Hall but Franklin, Banks, Habersham, Hart and Stephens counties as well in Northeast Georgia. There were also scattered reports of damage across the rest of North Georgia and the entire state but most were concentrated in the northeastern corner of the state. (See first link below.)
