CORNELIA - A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Habersham County man near Cornelia Saturday morning.

Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa said the wreck involved a 1995 Chevrolet 2500 utility truck driven by Kerwin Lawson Herrin.

Herrin, 32, of Clarkesville died after he lost control of the truck he was driving at 10:20 a.m. on the southbound entrance ramp to Georgia Highway 365 from Business Highway 441, Coffee said.

While Herrin's truck was negotiating a curve, the truck traveled onto the right shoulder of the ramp and he lost control, Coffee said. The truck then traveled off the road and struck a tree with the driver's side, trapping Herrin.

Herrin, who was truck's only occupant and was restrained, died at the scene, Coffee said.

Coffee said it was raining at the time of the crash.
